Jeep Wrangler and Blanton’s Custom Ring

Like all my best ideas, it started with an email from a customer…that outlines the idea.

All of my rings are custom, handmade to order. This gives you the customer the opportunity to be an integral part of the creative process; and it gives me the tinkering nerd the opportunity to create something truly bespoke. When my customers bring me unique ideas like this, I’m truly grateful at the challenge and chance to make them a one-of-a-kind piece they can cherish for a lifetime.

In this case, the customer, a Jeep enthusiast, wanted to integrate his hobby (and really for Jeep folk… it’s more of a culture) into his wedding ring. For this project, he proposed I use a camshaft from the engine of one of his projects. For non-gearheads like myself: a camshaft is a hollow tube with tear-shaped billets that, when rotated, govern the opening and closing the valves that let in air and fuel and release exhaust. Camshafts are great, in terms of machining down into jewelry dimensions. Though I am sure there are variations across engine types, this one had inside and outside diameters that made it very manageable to machine for wood interior or solid-metal.

Here, the customer wanted a Blanton’s whiskey barrel interior. Like all my rings, the wood is sealed in resin using a proprietary process that ensures it is durable and proof against the trials of daily wear.
